Auto-Reply Message (Out Of Office)

It's been a little quiet around here lately, I know. I was in New Orleans on business from early Saturday through late last night, with little time to blog and - since I was on my own and away from the family - even less in the way of inspiration.

I did manage - around the work - to accomplish a few of the "musts" that go along with any trip to the Big Easy. I had some excellent coffee and beignets one morning at Cafe Du Monde, the original location on Decatur Street. I had a "Debris" Po' Boy sandwich at Mother's - with swiss cheese, gravy and "dressed," just to be completely clear, ample dashes of "Louisiana's Pure" Crystal hot sauce on most of the bites as well.

Enjoyed an excellent dinner at Restaurant August, part of NOLA's expanding John Besh empire. You can't throw a stone in New Orleans, it seems, without hitting a different place where John Besh has cooked something for you to eat. I don't think there's been a town as associated with and overtaken by a single chef since maybe the height of Wolfgang Puck in Los Angeles, 15 years ago.

Anyway, it was a surprisingly enjoyable trip and now I'm back, reunited with the women in my life and on the hunt for new material. They understand the urgency, and I'm confident we'll be back in touch. Took the photo above with my cell phone on the return flight. The sunset looked even more spectacular set against the realization that home was on the other side.

I would love to hear what Ava thought of all the comments on her artwork - and just how far it was seen around the world. Could we arrange an interview with the artist perhaps?

Welcome back, we are all waiting on pins and needles for the next post. I second Jasmin, I would love to see an interview with the artist herself.

I apologize for having to be asked about Ava's reaction to the reactions to her artwork in the previous post, I should have reported back on that. In a word, she was delighted.

When the comments started rolling in from "all the way around the world," we established a list - which we continued to update. We also huddled around a globe at one point and watched her eyes light up as we continued to point at locations all over the orb.

As of this writing we've heard very nice things from 10 states in the U.S. and seven countries. Just amazing, and way beyond our expectations.

Every time I tell Ava about a new comment her response is always the same, she smiles and says "don't forget to write that on my piece of paper," which I dutifully do.

Here is the current list:

U.S. - Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, Arizona, New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, Oregon and Virginia

U.K., India, Australia, France, Philippines, French Caribbean, Ireland

I once went to Restaurant August on back to back nights during a medical convention. I think those are two of my top ten meals ever. Missed it this time around.

Please add Missouri to Ava's impressive list! Her artwork was as impressive as its wide audience, too. I'm the daughter of an art teacher, so that makes me somewhat of an authority, don't you think?

First comment on her art work from California! I love reading about your girls and your lovely life. My hubby and I are hoping for a family of our own soon, and yours inspires me all the time. Keep up the great posts, all of you!
